~ An environment in which they can grow spiritually and make connections between faith and real life.
~ An open exchange of ideas in which students support one another through prayer groups, Bible studies, group discussions, worship, meals, fellowship activities (ice cream socials, coffeehouses, movie nights, retreats, football games, etc.).
~ Community Service (Mission Outreach), preparing and delivering meals to needy individuals and Habitat for Humanity workers; shopping for disadvantaged children; mentoring at elementary and middle schools; yard work for the elderly, shut in, disabled, widowed, etc
Our program is connected with the Presbyterian Church (USA), but we fellowship and work together with other denominational campus ministry groups. OPSA's weekly meetings are held at 7:15pm in the Garnet & Blue Room at SC State each 1st and 3rd Monday night and in the Orange & Maroon Room each 2nd and 4th Monday night. Winthrop PSA: Seeks to minister to the specific needs
of students while they are at college. We are children of God who have
left the security of family and ventured into the wilderness of new
ideas, choices, and possibilities. We share a faith heritage as well
as a thirst for knowledge, wisdom, and truth. We share a belief in ecumenical
cooperation and in the oneness of the Body of Christ. We are a vital
part of the church and its mission. We experience God's grace in the
classroom, on the playing fields, in relationships with people, in service
to others, in seeking justice, as well as in worship, prayer, study
of the Scriptures, and in congregations. PSA programs are held at our
Presbyterian Student Center (412 Park Ave) behind Oakland Avenue Presbyterian
Church (421 Oakland Ave, two doors down from the president's house).
We offer many opportunities to gather for fellowship or service. You
are invited to come to all or one. On Sundays, we meet for worship at
11:00 at Oakland Ave Presbyterian Church, and then you are invited to
stay for a home-cooked lunch especially for college students. This ministry
is in conjunction with Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church and Providence
Presbytery. Contact John O'Kain, Director of Presbyterian Campus
Ministry (803) 327-2006 ex 231. PSASC Council Historian: Allie
Dempsey.
